Considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Organizing Committee decided to postpone this Congress to 15-16 July 2021, from its original date 27-28 May 2020. THE CONGRESS WILL HOST PRESENTIAL AND VIRTUAL TALKS (video conference).

Scope and Goals

The Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (IPP) invites you to participate in the International Congress on 21st Century Literacies (ICCL2021), to be held on July 15-16, 2021 at the School of Management and Technology, in Portalegre, Portugal.

Abstract Submission Guidelines for Authors

Contributions must be developed with the Abstract Template
All abstracts must be submitted at xxicl@ipportalegre.pt with the subject ICCL2021_Oral or ICCL2021_Poster.

  • Abstracts must be written in English and, not exceeding one page including title, authors and affiliations.
  • All abstracts will be reviewed by members of the scientific committee.
  • All accepted abstracts will be published in the meeting Book of Abstracts (with ISBN).
  • The Book of Abstracts will be published on the meeting web page.
  • At least one of the authors must be registered in the congress for the abstract to be published in the meeting Book of Abstracts.

Oral Presentations

The Physical and Virtual (Ora)l Presentations will take place in parallel sessions.
Each Physical and Virtual Individual (Oral) Presentation is up to 15 minutes including Q&A.
Presentations can be given in English, Portuguese or Spanish.
Live-stream Presentations via Zoom, ICCL2021 or a pre-recorded Virtual Presentation option.
Create your presentation video and sent it to xxicl@ipportalegre.pt.
The style of the video is up to you. Some delegates choose to record themselves presenting, while others convert a PowerPoint presentation into a video.

Posters

Poster dimension: A0 (841 x 1189 mm / 33,1 x 48,8 in).
Posters should be written in English, Portuguese or Spanish.
Each Physical or Virtual Individual (Ora)l Poster Presentation is up to 5 minutes including Q&A.

Organizer Session/Symposium Registration

Authors can submit proposals for Thematic Session/Symposium (Oral Communication or Poster).
Thematic Session/Symposium should have at least 4 speakers (organizer included).

For each proposal the following should be indicated:

  • Main topic of the proposal: Digital literacy, Emotional literacy, Environmental literacy, Film literacy, Financial literacy, Health literacy, Literacy and art, Literacy, reading and libraries, Management literacy, Media literacy, Quantitative literacy, Scientific literacy, STEM literacy and others.
  • Presentation language: English, Portuguese or Spanish.
  • The Thematic Session/Symposium chair, the titles and authors of all communications.

The organizers of Thematic Session/Symposium will fill out the Organizer Application Form with all the requested information and send it by email to xxicl@ipportalegre.pt, until May 20th, 2021, with the subject: ICCL2021_Session/Symposium Registration.

Acceptance Notification

Authors will be notified of the acceptance decision via email. The inclusion of the communications and posters in the meeting program, depends on the complete registration (including fees payment) of at least one author.

Full Paper Submission Guidelines for Authors

Authors are advised to submit full papers through the meeting submission system at https://xxicl.ipportalegre.pt/to-participate/paper-submission/

  • Each paper must be original and unpublished work, not submitted for publication elsewhere and its publication must be approved by all authors.
  • Full papers can be written in English, Portuguese or Spanish.
  • The length of the full paper should be between 5 and 8 pages (A4 size), incorporating the title page (title, abstract and keywords), all text, references, figures and tables.
  • Full papers should be formatted according to the congress template and submitted in Word format.
  • Submitted papers will follow a standard review process and there is no guarantee that they will be accepted.
  • Authors will be notified via email of acceptance or rejection of their paper.
  • The papers that need major modifications will be re-reviewed.
  • The congress e-book will be published on the meeting web page.

Authors of papers presented at the congress may submit the corresponding full article (original and unpublished) to one of the following journals (Articles must comply with the editorial standards of the journal in question and will be subject to peer review):

Book of abstracts

All the accepted abstracts will be published in the conference Book of Abstracts (with ISBN) which is foreseen as a Congress outcome.

E-book

Authors of accepted Abstracts are kindly invited to submit full versions of their papers (Full paper).
Full papers will be subjected to peer-review.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  The submission of “Full Papers” is optional.

Journals

As an alternative to publication in the E-book, authors can submit their manuscript to one of the following journals. Papers must comply with the editorial standards of the journal in question and will be subject to peer review.

Authors of papers presented at the congress may submit the corresponding full papers to Revista Interações. All papers submitted for this dossier must comply with the magazine’s publication rules (https://revistas.rcaap.pt/interaccoes/about) and will be evaluated by a “blind” peer review. Acceptance for publication is conditioned by the evaluation carried out by the reviewers (minimum 2), reserving the final decision on publication of the publishers of the dossier.

In the Section field choose the option “Papers” and in the Comments to the Editor field refer to “Dossier thematic Digital Literacy”. Send word document (without references to authorship and affiliation in the text of the article).
Portuguese language/english language.

Fees for more than one paper per author

For one paper (1): 1 registration fee
For two papers (2): 1 registration fee + 25€.
For three papers (3): 1 registration fee + 50€.

Congress languages: preferably English, however Portuguese and Spanish can also be used.
In case of non-attendance, the registration fee will not be refunded.

Live-Stream Presentations via Zoom and information about giving a pre-recorded Virtual Presentation

We are dedicated to providing platforms that make presentation and publishing possible for everyone. ICCL2021 purpose the Presential and online participation in the congress.

Virtual Presenters enjoy all of the following:

Many people around the world are moving meetings, classrooms and events online, and ICCL2021 is now offering the option to present online, via Zoom. This is an exciting new opportunity for scholars around the world to engage with an international audience without the need to travel.

Live-stream presentations give speakers the opportunity to avoid expenses and time required to travel, reduce their carbon footprint, and share ideas online. Additionally, many of the same benefits enjoyed by presenters at traditional in-person conferences are also available to online presenters, including presenting one’s work to an international audience.

ICCL2021 Virtual Presentation Process

To present your research at the congress as a Virtual Presenter, your abstract must first pass double-blind peer review. To submit, go to: https://xxicl.ipportalegre.pt/to-participate/abstract-submission/

If accepted for presentation at the congress, ICCL2021 invites authors to register, participate and publish in the following way:

  1. Register on the congress website. Upon payment of the registration fee, your attendance at the conference will be confirmed.
  2. Create your presentation video and send it to xxicl@ipportalegre.pt. The style of the video is up to you. Some delegates choose to record themselves presenting, while others convert a PowerPoint presentation into a video. Your presentation video will then be added to ICCL2021 Online Video Archive where it will remain indefinitely.

We leave some suggestions on how to record your presentation

Screen casting is basically a digital recording of the computer screen output, often including audio narration. Screen casting is different from screen shooting or screen capturing in that the former contains video captures ‒ visual components similar to a movie ‒ of the computer screen activity accompanied by audio, while the latter provides images of the screen content at a particular time. There are a variety of tools available that can be used to create screencasts Some of them are freely available on the Internet, as presented in the following table. Our recommendation is to use OBS (Open Broadcast Studio), apowersoft or moveavi (see links and more details in the table below) but many other options are available. Options marked with ** may be of your interest.
